Six months have passed since a massive earthquake devastated the island of Haiti, killing an estimated 200,000 people and laying waste to huge areas of land. Integral Alliance is helping rebuild the lives of survivors.

As a member of Integral, CEDAR joins hands with churches worldwide to support Integral partners and Haiti's churches to implement various relief and rehabilitation programmes, helping the people of Haiti recover in the aftermath of January's devastating earthquake.

Iselene Clairville Celne lost both hands and half an arm in the earthquake, but has now restarted her business selling spaghetti, sweets and other dried food and essentials thanks to a small grant from Integral's partner. The business has given Iselene the opportunity to earn money for her and her family and restored some of her hope and dignity. 'I'd like to say thank you for everything you have done for me. Please pray for me and my children. I'd like us all to live together again.'

Reconstructing buildings and lives in remote mountainous areas

Remote mountain areas suffered significant destruction in January's quake. Integral aid workers are helping affected communities in incredibly remote mountainous areas build temporary emergency shelters and latrines, assessments are being done to reconstruct more permanent buildings in the next phase of work. In addition, they are running children's clubs in areas where there are no schools. Here youngsters learn about hygiene and other health promotion messages.

Rebuilding the lives of survivors with water and seeds supply

Integral has also surveyed drinking water sources in upland areas which have been damaged or could be improved, to ensure safe, clean supplies for these isolated communities and the influx of people who have moved out of the cities. In addition, seeds and farming tools have been provided to 1,500 Haitian farmers in an effort to help the agricultural sector get back on its feet.

Providing medical care and supports with Christian compassion

Integral has been serving the injured and traumatised victims by providing urgent care in hospitals and mobile medical units. In the phase of rehabilitation, Integral medical team will provide prosthetics, equipment, rehabilitation and emotional support to people with disabilities; conduct seminars and training sessions with community leaders, teachers and pastors to help raise awareness and increase support for the disabled communities; and advocate for the improvement of the quality of life of people with disabilities in the community and at government levels.

Pray for and walk with the survivors in the road of recovery

The survivors need at least 10 years to recover and rebuild their living. Let's us join our hearts and hands with them together in the road of recovery.

Prayer points:

• Please ask God to bless the continuing efforts of Integral and other agencies to help Haiti recover, notably rebuilding shelter and livelihoods.
• Give thanks for the generosity of giving by churches in Hong Kong that has enabled CEDAR, in partnership with Integral partners, to respond and help tens of thousands of Haitians since January.
• Lift up survivors who are still suffering and pray they will come to terms with their losses and have the energy and motivation to begin their lives anew.
• Pray for wisdom for Haiti's government as it presides over the recovery effort.
• Pray for the church to bring light into the darkness of this post-disaster situation.
