Raise Hand for the Poor
10.10.10 “Micah 2010” campaign

"… we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do." Galatians 2:10

191 countries jointly set up Millennium Development Goal in 2000 and committed to halve global poverty by 2015. There are 5 years remaining until 2015. Micah challenge initiates 10.10.10 "Micah 2010" campaign to mobilise Christians from different countries remember the poor and remind world leaders to confirm the promise of achieving MDGs through 3 simple actions: pray, promise and hand-over.

As Christians we want to declare God’s heart for the poor and we want to remind our leaders that action to halve poverty is worth every effort. We must remember the poor.

Action Request

CEDAR is a member of Micah network and consistently concerns about the actual fulfillment of MDGs. Responding to the call of "Micah 2010" campaign, we encourage churches and Christians to respond through the following 2 actions:

1. Global Prayer

"Micah 2010" hopes to mobilise 100 millions Christians worldwide, using the "Global prayer" to pray for God’s justice at 10 Oct. 2010. Please publish the prayer on Sunday service rundown leaflets, or print it on prayer cards or put it up on the powerpoint and invite congregations to read it aloud.

2. Big Promise

As a sign of the promise, we are asking people to raise their hands in promise, then take a "hand raised" photo.
Hands mean worship, hands pledge support and we use our hands to demonstrate God’s love.
The simple action of using "hand raised" photos to confirm our promise is a symbol of faith and action coming together.
The photos are also a visible message that we pass on to our leaders that our promise to halve global poverty cannot be forgotten.

Three steps to make promise:
Make a promise, take photo, submit.

Make a promise
Participants can adopt the recommendation of Micah 2010, or create a promise phrase / sentence, raise your hands and read it aloud.

"We promise to remember the poor."
"End poverty."
"We promise to remind our leaders to keep their commitment to the poor."

Take photo
Create a "poverty reduction" phrase / sentence and have it written on your hand, or on your clothes, or on a piece of paper and pasted on your hand or somewhere on your body. Take a photo. Show your willingness to promise you will take action to halve poverty, and make it your solemn personal covenant.  [The photo should clearly show the sentence and your hand, self portrait is highly recommended for the sake of conveniently calculated figures of participants (for group photo, please remark clearly number of participants)]

Submit
Join "Micah 2010" campaign facebook group created by CEDAR. Upload the photo to the group. Tag the photo to your facebook account, let your friends view your photo and join the campaign. We hope to collect 1,000 photos and pass a visible message to our leaders so that our promise to halve global poverty cannot be forgotten.
If you haven't subscribe to a facebook account, send your photo to us through post or email (sharing@cedarfund.org).

3. Big Hand over
CEDAR will collect the "hand raised" photos from Christians in Hong Kong and submit them to Micah challenge. Micah challenge will collect handprints from Christians in different countries and deliver them to leaders of nations around the globe.
