Children’s Learning Space in Myanmar

11-year-old Byar, a resilient boy, was among the first to enter the learning space. Simple yet brimming with possibilities, this space became a beacon of hope for Byar and many others like him.

Displaced and yearning to learn:

Byar’s village lacked a school due to its remoteness from the city. The ongoing political instability further exacerbated this issue, as teachers were understandably reluctant to stay in the village due to safety concerns. To escape from conflict, Byar relocated to an IDP camp with his grandmother, leaving him feeling lonely and lost. Witnessing the destruction of his village by armed conflict added further trauma to his young heart.

Finding solace and a thirst for knowledge:

A few months later, Byar’s life changed for the better. He discovered the learning space, filled with camaraderie and the joy of learning. Surrounded by his newfound friends, Byar’s spirit blossomed. He shed his initial shyness, becoming an active and engaged participant in the class.

From student to storyteller:

Byar’s confidence grew alongside his knowledge. He discovered a unique passion for storytelling. With the guidance of his mentors, Byar began crafting narratives that captured his experiences in the IDP camp. His stories, written with raw honesty and captivating detail, resonated within the camp and far beyond, shedding light on the struggles faced by displaced communities.
