India, expected to become the world’s most populous nation in 2028, is tackling massive societal conflicts, economic disparity and disaster issues.
The recent heavy rainfall in the northern Wayanad district of Kerala state caused multiple landslides. In response, we provide emergency relief to 800 affected households from six villages in the area. All benefited households will receive an unconditional cash transfer. In addition, we selected the neediest families to receive household materials and seed money support to enable them to restore their livelihoods.
For the long-term development work, we strive to reduce disaster risk in the northern state of Bihar. Besides, in the northeastern state of Manipur, where tribal tensions are prevalent, we build local communities, including church and civil society leaders, working towards constructive co-existence and mitigating conflicts through trauma healing, authentic dialogue, and peace advocacy. Moreover, to facilitate community development in urban areas, we train community organisations in Delhi, enhancing their capacities to serve the community and providing vocational training for the youth.
