IMPACT STORY

Payal is a grade 4 student in a rural village in the southwestern district of Satkhira. Born to a poor family, Payal’s father is a barber, her mother is a housewife and has two younger sisters. The family struggles with very little income, and Payal and her sisters are discouraged from attending school as their parents require them to assist in making money for the family’s survival.

During a household visit, the education supervisor identified that Payal did not attend school despite her age. The supervisor talked with Payal’s parents and encouraged them to support Payal’s education. Finally, at 8, Payal started to attend school for the first time.

Since then, Payal has embraced the opportunity to study, being attentive to class and achieving top results in every annual exam and is now studying in grade 4. Payal also attends Friday School regularly and she loves to share biblical stories and lessons from the class with her family.

During one of the regular household visits, the education supervisor asked Payal about her future plans. Without hesitation, Payal replied, ‘I want to be a teacher!’ Payal said that most poor children, particularly girls, do not have the opportunity to receive an education, and without proper guidance and nurturing, they cannot fulfil their full potential.

‘If God fulfils my dream, I will help the poor children, especially girls, receive quality education.’

If God fulfils my dream, I will help poor children, especially girls, receive quality education.
