Rescue, Rehabilitation and Re-integration process of trafficked and sexually exploited women and their children

Sylvia (pseudonym) is a survivor of human trafficking. She comes from a poor family in a rural village in Nepal. Her family did not treat her well, so the traffickers took advantage of her and sold her to the red light district of Mumbai.

Sylvia was forced to sell her body for a living. She got married in the red light district and gave birth to a baby girl. When Sylvia became a mother, life became more difficult. She used to sell her body for HK$5.

Because of the pressure of life, Sylvia asked many people to lend her money. But because she had to pay rent every month, Sylvia was often unable to pay her debts on time. When she couldn’t pay her debts, her daughter would be harassed by debt collectors. She discovered that she and her daughter are both HIV carriers. She also suffers from spinal problems and has tried to commit suicide twice because she thinks life is too hard.

While Sylvia was struggling to live in the red light district, she was encouraged by volunteers from Asha Nepal to leave India and return to Nepal. Finally, Sylvia and her daughter returned to Nepal on September 11, 2021, with the help of Asha Nepal. Asha Nepal also helped pay the rent for the house they were staying in.

Sylvia now believes in Jesus Christ, and Asha Nepal continues to care and pray for her. She attends Asha Nepal’s services every night. She is very happy that she has found a new home. She is also very optimistic about her HIV treatment.

She says,

God has given me a new life now. I will live happily ever after. I’m not ashamed of my past; I won’t look back because the past is gone, and God doesn’t judge my past. He will see my future, and I will create my future.
